12 Days of Christmas Special : Soul Awakening
Merry Christmas to all our writers and readers!
With 2012 just around the corner, it was only fitting that Downright Fiction's next featured book dealt with spiritual themes and allowed for learning to trust in the unknown! Starting today- for each of the twelve days - we will be doing a daily excerpt from Author Doug Simpson's debut fiction novel, Soul Awakening.
The Color of Music : An Excerpt
Author Claire Gordon shares with our readers a chapter from her self-published novel, 'The Color of Music,' a story of separately raised identical twins who come to discover their musical heritage through their growing years.Claire began her career with the jazz industry as a secretary for Duke Ellington and even went on to bring together Nat King Cole and her songwriter husband Irving Gordon to record the song "Unforgettable" that Gordon wrote for her.
The subject of twins always intrigued Claire because she was raised with another child her own age; creating a feeling of being a twin.
The Color of Music : How Claire Gordon came to Self-Publish
Nothing in her middle-class Los Angeles childhood suggested that Claire Gordon would form an abiding interest in jazz. But by the age of 14, the signs were there. She discovered the music of Duke Ellington and other jazz artists, all while in her teens!
The first major artist to enter her life was singer Maxine Sullivan, who became a life-long friend. Others followed - Nat "King" Cole, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Carter, pianists Art Tatum and Mary Lou Williams, disc jockeys, song writers, more artists, and other jazz buffs.
